Stopping Nuisance Calls

Normally I post about my HCI research but I thought today that I’d do something which is unrelated but may be of use to some people. Earlier this year our house’s landline was being bombarded by nuisance calls. We had, on average, six calls a day from sales persons, phishers and fraudsters. I managed to find a cost effective method of stopping them using safe lists.

Elegant Bird – A Theme for Xubuntu

One of my favourite GTK themes of all time was Elegant Cold Blue, a spin-off of Elegant Brit.  I’ve decided to have a crack at porting it to Xubuntu 12.10.  Along the way I’ve been able to make a few tweaks to the theme to make it more usable in xfce by utilising elements of Xubuntu’s default theme: Greybird.  For a similar theme on Ubuntu checkout Elegant-Ambiance or Milieu Bird.

SynergyNet and Kinect – Classroom Data Collection

As mentioned in the recent post about using the Kinect with TUIO, I’ve been working with the Microsoft device to create a method of classroom orchestration for teachers.  With the Kinect now playing nice with our multi-touch framework we’ve let a number of teachers loose trying it out.  Some images of the work so far can be seen on the SynergyNet blog.
